*** = best bets **= comfortable pick *= if we had to pick
Our best bets went 5 for 5 last week. As we all know, a gambling dollar has no home, but we are going to try and keep it as a tenant for as long as possible. Here is what I think will happen this week.
Sunday, September 20th
Minnesota Vikings @ Indianapolis Colts: IND -3 >>>> The Vikings managed to score 34 and still lose by 9 in week 1. They were brutal in pass defence. The Colts were shocked by the Jaguars despite putting up 445 total yards to the Jags 241. Both teams have high expectations this year and can ill afford to go 0-2.
Pick: Take Minnesota +3 *
Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: TB -8.5>>>>The Panthers lost a shootout, but managed to put up 388 yards in total offence behind Christian McCaffrey. Teddy Bridgewater managed the game well (22 for 34, 270 yards 1TD) in his debut. The Bucs played better than the score indicated, and the Saints are amongst the faves to win the NFC. Brady was not at his best, but expect a bounce back. A lot of weapons on this team. Still seems like a lot of chalk until they can prove it
Pick: Carolina +8.5**
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans: TEN -7.5>>>>This line opened at -10 and has dropped a full 2.5. The Jags surprised the Colts in week 1 scoring 27 points despite only 241 yards in total offence. The Titans squeaked by the Broncos 16-14 despite a pretty good offensive performance. I think the Jags performance is being overrated here.
Pick: Tennessee -7.5 *
New York Giants @ Chicago Bears: CHI -5.5>>>> The Giants and Saquan Barkley (15 rushes for 6 yards) couldn’t run the ball at all last week against the Steelers. They ran for a total of 29 yards and 22 of those were QB Daniel Jones (who played well). Things don’t get any easier against an outstanding defensive group in Chicago. The Bears struggled against the Lions though, allowing 426 total yards and only an outright drop in the endzone with 5 seconds left preserved the 27-23 win. Take the points.
Pick: New York +5.5 **
Atlanta Falcons @ Dallas Cowboys: DAL -4.5>>>> Despite 500+ yards of total offence and 450 yards by Matt Ryan the Falcons were essentially blown out by the Seahawks 38-25 in week one. The Cowboys gave up 422 yards in total offence to the Rams and decided not to kick the tying field goal in the 4th so they could lose 20-17. I see a lot of points in this one.
Pick: Dallas -4.5*
Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers: GB -6.5>>>>The Lions deserved the win last week vs Chicago, but they are the Lions. Finding ways to lose for 50+ years. The Packers and Aaron Rodgers (32 of 44 for 364 and 4 TDs) looked scary dropping 43 on the Vikings. I like this line below 7.
Pick: Green Bay -6.5 *
Buffalo Bills @ Miami Dolphins: BUF -6>>>>The Dolphins managed only 11 points against the Pats in week 1 and Fitzpatrick was brutal (20 for 30 191 yards 3 INTs). The Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen (33 for 46, 312 yards 2 TDs, 14 rushes 57 yards 1 TD) look like they are out to take advantage of the Bradyless AFC East.
Pick: Buffalo -6 ***
San Francisco 49er @ New York Jets: SF-6.5>>>>Niners were upset by the Cardinals and Kyler Murray in week 1, but the Cardinals might just be the real deal. Jets looked bad in their loss to Buffalo because they are bad. Bounce back for the defending NFC Champs.
Pick: San Francisco -6.5 ***
Los Angeles Rams @ Philadelphia Eagles: PHI -1>>>>> This line moved from Rams -1 to Eagles -1…and we do not know why(?). Philly blew a 17-0 lead giving up 27 unanswered points and 8 sacks to Washington. The Rams racked up 422 yards on Dallas and sacked the more mobile Dak Prescott 3 times.
Pick: Los Angeles +1 ***
Denver Broncos @ Pittsburgh Steelers: PIT-6.5>>>>This is a tough one. The return of Big Ben (21 for 32 for 229 and 3 TDs) was a successful one. But are the Giants any good? The Broncos couldn’t get much going against Tennessee, but Tennessee is a good team. or are they? This one will be close.
Pick: Denver + 6.5 **
Washington Football Team @ Arizona Cardinals: ARZ -6.5>>>> That Washington Football Team defence is making a name for itself, even if the team has no name with 8 sacks against the Eagles. Chase Young is a game changer. Kyler Murray is a different sort of quarterbacking animal though. Lots of weapons in Arizona…not so much in Washington.
Pick: Arizona -6.5 ***
Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans: BAL -6.5>>>>>The Ravens and reigning MVP Lamar Jackson (20 for 25 for 275 yards, 3TDs, 7 rushes for 45 yards) picked up where they left off (at least in the regular season) dusting the Browns like a powdered donut 38-6. Houston were in tough against the Superbowl champs and dropped 34-20. Expect a similar result here.
Pick: Baltimore -6.5 **
Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers: KC -9>>>>>The Chiefs showed no signs of a Superbowl hangover, rolling over Houston with ease. The Chargers squeaked by the Bengals and rookie QB Joe Burrow. I don’t like their chances here.
Pick: Kansas City -9 **
New England Patriots @ Seattle Seahawks: SEA -4>>>>The game of the week here. Seahawks looked really good in week one behind Russell Wilson (31 for 35, 322 yards 4TDs). The Patriots Cam Newton (15 for 19 for 155 yards and 15 carries for 79 yards and 2 TDs) era started off pretty well too…at least on the ground. They did play the Dolphins.
Pick: Seattle -4 **
