Royal Ascot – Day Two

So it is good to soft, very soft for an american but most English runners are used to a little cut in the ground. We start the day with the Silver Royal Hunt Cup. This is a cavalry charge over the straight mile and our idea is 1 Sir Busker under Oisin Murphy. We met the trainer on his first international trip and ever since we follow William Knight’s runners with interest. The top weight is beatifully drawn in stall 18 and we have taken 9/1 each way. Of course we respect 15 Ouzo from stall 24 under Ryan Moore but 7/2 is skinny when you have 22 runners.

Hampton Court Stakes (Gr.3) is next and here we have two great ideas. 1 Berlin Tango defeated Pyledriver last time out and Pyledriver won here yesterday. The form is superstrong. We caught him at 7/1 but would go as low as 5/1. Also 2 Kenzai Warrior missed the break in 2000 Guineas but did ok after that. Down in class and up in distance we love the 12/1 prize.

King George V is a valuable handicap over 1m4f. High draws are preferred and 3 Bright Melody fits the bill. Third behind Berlin Tango and Pyledriver the Dubawi gelding is our preferred choice at 6/1. 8 To Nathaniel is another one for the shortlist at 11/1.

Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Gr.1) is a good one and 5 Japan is the likely winner. We will take our chances with 1 Addeybb who did progress during his trip to Australia. 6/1 is just too good to pass on each way.

The “real” Royal Hunt Cup is next and we continue to like Oisin Murphys rides. 14 Bell Rock is drawn in stall 10 and remember that Bell Rock started in St James’s Palace Stakes (Gr.1) last year. He will be produced late and 8/1 is a fair prize. We would bet him down to 6/1. The Sheiks have a lot of runners and some of them could be the real deal. 11 Afaak won this last year and was runner up the year before that. Cieren Fallon will be a world class jockey and this is a find at 14/1.

Windsor Castle Stakes and this is for 2-year olds. We will have two Wesley Ward trained horses and there is a chance that the Stars and Stripes will fly high. 20 Sunshine City is a winner and has Frankie aboard. Should be the stable elect. 11 Sheriff Bianco has managed to get Oisin Murphy up. Both horses have little value at 13/2. The value of the race is 5 Get It who did beat 14 Tactical at Newmarket. 10/1 is an ok price and we secured 5 places.

A class 2 handicap over 1 m 6f is the last race of the day. If you are desperate go for 2 Floating Artist a course winner who should stay the extra distance. 12/1 is fair.
