Even though we lost out on the Pick 6 yesterday we take comfort (and a lot of green) in the fact that our 12/1 nap Jakarta won easily. We have been lucky enough recently to provide you with several outsiders. This Funday we will focus on Gulfstream Park. We have been off the turf recently and with Thunderstorms tormenting the area it is somewhat likely that we are off the turf again. Please try to wait as long as possible before entering your tickets. Edit: Some races are moved to the dirt.
Race 1 – Early Pick 5
We will start off the day with one of our best picks. 2 Bahamian Girl is 15/1 on the morning line. She is a good sprinter and should we move this race to the main track she will still be in it with a good chance! Last time out she got bad start so we will forget about that one. The draw is perfect and we expect her to be close to the pace if not doing the pace. Good longshot with Miggy Vasquez aboard. Miggy has won 6 races so far this week. 4 Imprayingforthat has shown some form on the lawn recently and finally broke her maiden last time out. 8 Holly Hill won a similar maiden claimer as #4 last time out, also going wire to wire. Both horses will have to step up if they are going to defeat winners. Lionel Reyes doesn’t win often, but he is the probable favorite aboard 1 Queen Abarrio. 10 Bella Bionda gets Saez up and the barn is on fire.
A: 2 B: 1,10 C: 4,8
Edit: This race is moved to the dirt. Scratch 1,3,7,10. We still like 2 Bahamian Girl but will move to include number 5. B: 2 C:4,5,8
If you don’t want to gamble on the first race this is the start of the early pick 4. It is a bad maiden claimer, but it will produce a winner nonetheless. Veteran loser 5 King Wade is a six year old who has managed to stay a maiden for 30 starts. He showed some determination last time out so the form is there. He looks to be suited by the extra half furlong and will pass many in the stretch. He has the measure of 4 Bulkcarrier who inexplicably is shorter on the morning line. 8 Tempus showed absolutely nothing in his comeback last time out. Given his form as a two year old he should win this going away. Worth a market check. 10 Trinni Dancer drops substantially in class and is a must-use for bargain hunters. 2 O Driscoll drops in class and won’t be far away at the finish.
A: 5 B: 2,8 C: 4,10
And we are back with another good betting proposition. 4 Inter Miami seems to be overlooked by most tipsters despite the class drop. He has been deemed good enough to face stakes competition and has beaten the jolly 7 R U Lucky before. The favorite will be popular given the Irad/Saffie combo. 2 Plato is good for the class and 1 Like You might be able to stretch the field from his inside post under Miggy Vasquez.
Edit: 4 Inter Miami is a scratch. B: 7 C:1,2
A maiden scheduled for 1 1/16 on the grass. 4 Voodoo Zip went close last time out and is the most likely winner given that the race stays on the lawn. 8 Scanno made some ground on Voodoo Zip in the stretch latest. Will go close again. 10 Unrighteous was a huge disappointment as the odds-on favorite at Oaklawn Park last time out. He met some good horses in the Tampa Bay Derby. This Pletcher trainee is likely to be way overbet again. Looking for an upset? Look no further than 1 Opus North the betting from his starts at Woodbine last year suggest he has some ability. Is likely to improve in the second start after a layoff.
B: 4 C:1,8,10
Edit: Change to dirt track. Scratch 1,4,5,7 The move will make 10 Unrighteous a banker B:10
A 6250 dollar claimer over the mile. This should be between 1,2,4,5,8 with the rest just being too slow. 1 Geonosis is a class-dropper with som ability and Luis Saez is handling the reins.
B: 1 C: 2,4,5,8
Betting the pick 5
We will take a gamble and use Inter Miami as a banker. Then we will require 0 C-horses or 1 A. Edit: we have changed the banker.
This race is the start of the Pick 6. We won’t play it today but it sure looks good for the fans of Todd Pletcher.
In the sixth we will warn against 10 Hotsy Totsy. Clement is a great turf trainer and Irad is the best there is. Hotsy Totsy was a good one in England and her last start was in the Sandringham. That should give the class to best this field but we are worried that the extra distance won’t suit. Casamento’s offspring are often milers and Hotsy Totsy won her races at 7 furlongs. The class drop is huge – but she will have to show her full class to beat veterans as 3 Scatnap the winner of 10 races. Five of them on the lawn, five on the dirt. 9 Codrington will arrive late to the scene but is in really good form. 7 Katieleigh will try to take them wire to wire and might succeed as there is not much pace in the race.
Edit: This race is kept on the turf. Hence we scratch the MTO 6 Ria Monk.
Rest of the races
It sure looks good for 5 Sniper Shot in the seventh. The next should go to one of the imports if it stays on the turf but the value lies with 3 Noble Thought who competed in the Sword Dancer last summer.
Sunday Silence Stakes will go to likely favorite 3 Spinoff. This is not the Kentucky Derby.
The tenth should see 12 Miss Munnings as the clear favorite. We would like to give 9 Ebullient a second chance. She set too strong a pace last time out and is in it to win it this time.
6 Catharsis will win the last.
