Gulfstream Park Early P5

Gulfstream keeps attracting large fields and with the pace bias it keeps having both predictable and unpredictable results. We like the early Pick 5 today because we have a banker and we have some two-year-olds where the jolly will be overbet.

Race 1

Five furlongs on the lawn and this 12 500 – 10 000 dollars claimer is sure to have the public divided between a few decent class drops. 2 No No Nina is just 8/5 on the morning line thanks to Christophe Clement / Tyler Gaffalione. The truth is that she has showed nothing so far, hence the class drop. She might be good enough, but she is one to oppose. 4 Shell Beach Party has been unlucky since she ran a good race in a higher grade March 13. Is beautifully drawn and will be placed forwardly. She will be a good outsider but preference is for 6 Myfirstexwife ridden by the mighty Irad Ortiz Jr. The trainer is one from three so far this meet. Luckily for us we watched the race when Snow And Lilylynn was very impressive at 10/1 recommended by us. We noticed that 7 Businessindubai ran a cracker in defeat that day and could spring a surprise today.

B: 6

C: 2,4,7

Race 2

This is a baby maiden race and our guess is that the public will bet 4 Gem Thief to a prohibitive favorite. Wesley Ward has Irad Ortiz Jr up and the workout line is showing some good bullets. Can of course be a different class but might as well lose to stablemate 2 Tharos ridden by Gaffalione. Tharos was actually the more expensive horse at the sales. She hasn’t been working as fast as Gem Thief but is likely to try to go wire to wire. There are others to consider in this race. 3 Princess Secret has a red hot trainer and Luis Saez is up after posting some nice bullets. 5 Lyrical looks like a nice one and the connections have already had their babies in the winner’s circle. 7 Briella looks sharp enough and hails from a shrewd barn. People with deep pockets use all horses here.

A: 3,5

C: 1,6,7,8

Race 3

A low level claimer is normally not where you find your banker of the day but 1 Take Charge Again had a troubled start last time out and ran a cracker after that with a wide turn. Pretty much everyone who watched that race marked their card “next time out”. There is not much pace here and from this draw she should be thereabouts right from the start.

Banker: 1

Race 4

A maiden claimer over 1700 meters (1m 1/2f) with a couple of interesting AE’s that could change the complexion of the race. 12 Caribbean Kitten has a lot going for him besides the draw. Maker is training the horse for the Ramsey’s and has Irad up. Disappointed in 30 000 dollars maiden claimers at Fair Grounds and with this 16 000 dollars price tag they probably hope to lose her. There is a lot of stamina in the pedigree and Irad will most likely advance to the lead early. There he will find the likely leader 5 Garner State Park and Luis Saez. This Pletcher trainee has been backed in this class before and might strike on the third time of asking. The extra distance should not pose a problem. 4 Formula gets Rosario in the saddle and takes a huge class drop. Stanley Hough can’t do much wrong nowadays and Formula is a must on your ticket. 3 Goodbitofbizness has improved with distance. Comes from the back and is not out of it. There are a lot of class droppers with question marks surrounding them but 1 Honolua Bay and 8 Missandei should not be dismissed from their recent efforts at this level.

A: 5

B: 4,12

C: 1,3,8

Race 5

8 Bourbon Currency has been knocking hard on the door recently and this is the third start after a long break. Irad Ortiz will handle the outside post and can go to the front or drop in if he pleases. Bourbon Currency is certainly good enough to win at this level and is a worthy favorite. There are a couple of interesting outsiders should Bourbon Currency choose to come in second for a fourth time in a row. 1 Indian Counselor has been a disappointment since his maiden win but could easily come back to form and crush our tickets. We prefer 2 Digital Footprint shipping in from New York from Michael Maker. We know that Joel Rosario won’t spare the horse from tomorrow if involved in a finish. 3 Cable Channel has posted some good pace and speed figures and drops in class with the extra distance supposed to suit. 4 Blameless was good in an allowance race latest and we really like 6 Motataabeq. 7 Bad Beat Brian is Pletcher/Saez.

B: 8

C: 2,3,4,6,7

The system

We will play a system with two requirements. Either no C or one A/max two C. That should give us seven tickets. This system would cost 576 dollars without reduction. Written like this it is 143 dollars a quite massive saving.
